Course - PMIS
Project Management Information Systems |
This course provides a process-based approach to manage development project information. While development projects are similar in some ways to other types of projects, they pose unique challenges for the managers and organizations that undertake them. This course will give students an understanding of the most common processes, tools, techniques, and practices that are necessary to manage development project information. This course examines the defining characteristics of information in development projects and introduces the student to a variety of information management techniques that can be applied to a development project. The course has a duration of three weeks. Each week presents the activities and exercises required to meet the learning objectives. Participants require an average of one hour per day to complete the assigned activities. The course is asynchronous, the instructor provides materials, lectures, tests, and assignments that can be accessed at any time. Students are given a timeframe during which they need to complete the assigned activities, participate in discussion forums, and submit their exercises in order to receive a grade. Upon successful completion of the Project Management Information Systems online course, participants will: Understand the information management processes and information life cycle, know the steps required to plan and manage project information and develop an effective project information management plan. Participants will have an improved understanding of how a PMIS can improve the quality of the reports and decisions in the project. At the end of your course, you will have the confidence to apply the principles of information management in your organization or project. Manuela Gazibar, World Vision – Romania “Going through this course has made me realize why a Data Management System (DMS) we introduced in my organization to ease the burden of data collection, analysis and dissemination of project/program results and impact failed to deliver the expected value it was designed for. The users (staff) were definitely not adequately involved in the 6 phases of the System Development Life Cycle and hence the rejection of the DMS by over 80% of staff which led senior management to withdraw the system. With the knowledge I have gained within 3 weeks, I can confidently guide any organization I am working with on how to effectively benefit from Project information management system that is responsive to the needs of the users." - Mohamed Sillah, ActionAid - Sierra Leone " I had a preconceived notion that this course would be highly technical and academic so I was apprehensive at first about the idea of enrolling. It turned out to be a practical, easy to understand and very relevant learning experience for me. Thank you for a well designed course and for all the materials shared with us (esp. for the course textbook). I am so glad I didn't miss this chance to study (for the 5th time!) with PM4DEV again."
